Biography

A Life of Service, Science, and Story

Walter R. Hoge, DVM earned both his master’s degree and doctorate in veterinary medicine from Purdue University before embarking on a distinguished career in small animal veterinary practice. For more than five decades, Dr. Hoge served families and their beloved pets with compassion, integrity, and clinical excellence. In 2024, during his 51st year of practice, he retired from active veterinary medicine, leaving behind a legacy built on service, dedication, and a deep respect for the human-animal bond.

Throughout his professional life, Dr. Hoge combined scientific rigor with heartfelt empathy. In addition to publishing several scientific journal articles, he cultivated a lifelong passion for storytelling. His literary works reflect his experiences as a veterinarian, husband, father, and man of faith. His published titles include Easter: McEaster Valley, Gramps and L.D., The Fables of Maui and Momma Cat, and the six-volume reflective series Thoughts on My Thoughts.

A devoted family man, Dr. Hoge is the proud father of five children and grandfather to seventeen grandchildren. Now retired in San Jose, California, he continues to write, reflect, and share stories celebrating compassion, faith, resilience, and the enduring impact of a life well lived.
